Working from home ideas and worksheets

Dear AGNES Parents,
We are aware that you maybe unsure where to begin when it comes to keeping your child(ren) progressing in their learning. We want to help by giving you some guidance and suggestions of activities to do with your child while you are unable to send them to Nursery.
1. Read with your child as much as possible.
We would suggest that you follow the learn strategy.
L- look at the pictures together.
E- Encourage your child to talk by letting them start the conversation.
A- ask questions about the story.
R- remember to talk about things your child is especially interested in.
N- never rush; remember to pause.
2. Sing songs and rhymes together. The website: www.wordsforlife.org.uk is a great resource for songs and rhymes.
3.Mark making- allow them to make marks on paper, in sensory materials (sand, rice etc.), with paint, markers, pencils etc.
If it would be appropriate have them continue to work on forming the letters of their name and other appropriate letters and words.
4. What can they find in the house and garden that have their name sound.
E.G. Ben- B sound- butterfly, ball, balloon, blue, bark, bath, bowl etc.
5. Do puzzle with your child as they work on hand and eye coordination, as well as build on their maths problem solving skills.
6. Domino- these can be either number, picture cards. This also works on their maths - problem solving skills.
7. Role play with your child. Have a tea party, be superheroes, set up a pretend shop in the lounge, be hair dressers and do each others hair, pretend to be zookeeper to the stuff toys, pretend to run a school.
8. Utilise your small world toys and play out scenes and scenarios.
9. Ensure you provide physical activity - singing action songs, do some yoga, complete an obstacle course in your front room. There are some PE type videos you could follow along with online.
10. Keep on counting and discussing colours with your child while they are playing, out for walks or playing in the garden.
11. Scissor skills. Have the children use some scissors to practise their cutting skills. We suggest focusing on cutting in a straight line. When this is mastered we would suggest moving onto zig zag pattern and then wavey lines.
12. We would have been following the theme of Easter over the next few weeks if you would like to do some activities.
We would love to hear about all the things you have been up to while we are away during this difficult time. Photos, copies of the sheets or games you have been doing would be great so we can add these things to the children's journey books.
Please find below a selection of ideas and worksheets. Not all activities will be appropriate for each age range but should give you some guidance and support
School leavers
Please also find a copy of the school readiness letter from Essex council. This will help you to be sure that your child will be school read in September.
